A truck almost crashes into a picturesque cottage

THE driver of a Home Bargains truck narrowly avoided a collision with a cottage in the early hours of the morning.

He dug a ditch in front of the house on the A338 at Collingbourne Ducis at 4.30am. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle.

A Ford Focus also ended up in the ditch as the driver allegedly swerved to avoid the truck. None of the drivers involved were injured in the crash.

Villager Simon Gilford said: “Another Home Bargains delivery is almost complete at Collingbourne Ducis early this morning.

“We must prevent heavy goods vehicles from passing through our villages. The A338 must be upgraded to B route now!

“Home Bargains lorries are a very big problem along the A338 and this is not the first incident involving them.

Another resident said: ‘It’s one of my worries living in Collingbourne, a lorry ending up in front of our house.

Wiltshire Police have been approached for comment.

They added: “They shouldn’t be allowed through here, especially at the speed most of them are driving. I’m amazed how they can drive but can’t read the speed limit signs.”
