What has been your company’s greatest achievement over the past year?

Another record year of mortgage/protection activity, throughout the global pandemic. We have also placed more people in their dream homes and protected them, something we strive to do better than anyone in Derbyshire.

How would you describe Chesterfield and North Derbyshire, using just three words?

Picturesque, friendly, welcoming.

What are your favorite places to visit in Chesterfield and why?

Holymoorside – when I moved from the North East we first lived in Holymoorside. It’s just an amazingly beautiful village with great walks and a friendly community.

How does your business become more sustainable?

For the most part, we’ve become as paperless as possible, which in our field of work is a huge step forward. We are also recycling and encouraging staff to work from home, reducing fuel emissions.

Why do you like working or doing business in Chesterfield or North Derbyshire?

Without a doubt, it’s the people. I think the people of Chesterfield/Derbyshire have a very similar ethos to those of my native North East – hard working, family oriented and very welcoming. Some might take this for granted, but it’s not wasted on me at all.

How do you support young people in your company through apprenticeships, internships or work experience and how do young people contribute to the success of your company?

As Head of Growth at Mortgage 1st, I feel well placed to say that we have huge plans to support the local community with many exciting job opportunities with us. We want to become one of the largest mortgage brokers in the UK. We also plan to build a first mortgage academy, which will provide exciting opportunities for members of our local community.

How do you, your company or your team support local populations?

We run a school education program to better educate children about what happens before, during and after buying a home. We believe that this awareness will not only prove extremely beneficial when buying/renting a home, but will also contribute to general life skills.

What is your vision for Chesterfield and North Derbyshire in 2030? In your opinion, what does the municipality need to achieve this?

My vision would be for Chesterfield FC to return well to the Football League and for

Chesterfield to have a thriving town center full of local businesses.
