Xīnnián hǎo (新年好)

Literally meaning New Year’s goodness or Happy New Year.

Another way to say Happy Chinese New Year is Xīnnián kuàilè (新年快乐), which literally means New Year’s happiness. It is a formal greeting usually used for foreigners.

Cantonese

Gong hei fat choy (恭喜发财)

This is an extremely versatile Chinese New Year greeting, it can be said as you would say Happy New Year to people. Its direct translation wishes you happiness and prosperity.

When is Chinese New Year?

Chinese New Year, which is calculated according to the lunar calendar where the moon falls on Tuesday, February 1, 2022.

The celebrations usually last around 16 days, starting today on Chinese New Year’s Eve until February 15.
