The Double Red Duke hotel in the Cotswolds recently opened – here’s a look inside.
17th century coaching inn, with 19 rooms and a contemporary restaurant, it is located in the picturesque village of Clanfield, near Bampton.
It is part of the Country Creatures family of pubs and inns, along with other establishments including The Checkers in Churchill and The Swan in Ascott-under-Wychwood.
The Double Red Duke has 19 individually designed rooms.
Informal and luxurious, they feature plush mattresses, freestanding tubs, and 100-acre apothecary products.
Downstairs in the dining room, the Double Red Duke has teamed up with Richard Turner of Hawksmoor to create a hearty menu with an emphasis on open-fire cooking on rotisseries and a wood-fired grill.
Signatures on the menu include lamb chops in milk and honey with a pea and haggis salad, spit roasted turbot with lemon ketchup, rose-grilled veal chop, fried oysters and a egg tartare and a cheese and onion pie.
Sunday lunch includes saddle of lamb, spit roasted porchetta, and prime prime rib, or you can try a little bit of everything for the table to share.
A shepherd’s hut treatment room is expected to be inaugurated at the site later this year.
Rooms start from £ 120 per night.
