The wife of an Indian take-out boss has opened her own restaurant a few doors down from the center of Canterbury.
Urban Wok Box has already welcomed its first customers – and there are already plans to franchise the Pan-Asian restaurant.
Vandy Kaur, 42, came up with the concept this year and decided to move into the old Between the Lines store on St Margaret’s Street in town.
She is following in the footsteps of her husband Diljeet Singh, who opened Wrapchic earlier this year in The Parade nearby.
Ms. Kaur said: “We have had great feedback and all of the customers have been very happy with the food and the service.
“We’ve started shipping on Deliveroo and we’re just waiting for the others to come back.
“It was pretty tough at first, but now I’m really enjoying it. Things are working out and the staff have been trained, so I’m pretty happy now.”
She is also looking to franchise take out food and is looking for locations in London and Sussex.
Ms. Kaur believes the concept is unique to the city as it offers a selection of different Asian cuisines in one store.
The restaurant’s website states, “Urban Wok Box’s mission is to create a healthy and affordable Pan-Asian fast food offering that caters to vegans, vegetarians and meat lovers.
Unique fusion dishes blend the flavors of Thai, Indonesian, Chinese, Malaysian, Indian and Japanese cuisine in one delicious boxed meal.
“The fresh and tasty dishes are ready to serve in minutes and can be enjoyed on the go or in store.”
Customers choose a small, medium, or large box, then choose plain rice, vegetable fried rice, or wok noodles as the base.
A variety of toppings are offered, including sweet and sour chicken, Thai green curry, fiery tofu, and curried chicken katsu.
Customers can also choose “bites†to accompany their meal, such as spicy chicken wings or a spring roll.
Urban Wok Box is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. all week.
