Panjin crab, co-developed rice sectors form a large-scale ecological model of “crab farming in rice fields”

PANJIN, China, 25 October 2021 / PRNewswire / – In this golden autumn when rice is ripe in Northeast China, the “Rice Cooking” activity was held at the Liaohe Folk Museum in Panjin, a coastal town of from northeast China Liaoning province, drew special attention, 22 October 2021, according to the publicity department of the Panjin CCP Municipal Committee.

Famous Chinese and foreign chefs cook on site

Panjin is located in the central and western part of Liaoning Province. The geographical environment of the confluence of rivers and seas has created a vast Reed Wetland, one of the most striking areas of the wetlands is an area known as the red beach, famous for its remarkable blood red algae. Panjin is rich in produce and well known as the “capital of wetlands”, “crane village” and “land of fish and rice”.

Panjin rice is internationally recognized for its high quality. Meanwhile, the crab aquaculture area was 114,667 hectares, with a production of over 70,000 tons, ranking the number one prefectural-level city in the country.

Rice and river crab make Panjin one of the first regions of China to develop the ecological model of “raising crabs and rice together”. Nowadays, Panjin continues to use its ecological advantages to co-develop the crab and rice industry, promoting the development of agricultural land scale, high-quality varieties, standardization of production, ecological cultivation, brand marketing, collectivization of management and development of the industrial chain, leading the rice and crab planting and cultivation area to 56,667 hectares, which formed a model of ecological agriculture in large scale. Panjin has also become the first national market for the quality and safety of agricultural products by Northeast China.

At the event site, one of Panjin’s cuisines called “Five Grain Steamed Crab”, as a representative dish of Liaohe Estuary cuisine, was well received.

“Rice Cuisine” was held in Panjin, also marked the successful conclusion of the “Liaoning-2021 Northeast Asia Folk Cuisine Culture Exchange Week”.
