A restaurant got more than expected when it posted a review on Tripadvisor.
The Plow Inn near Bewdley in Worcestershire is one of the best-rated pubs in the area, but that wasn’t enough to satisfy a customer called Judith.
Judith wrote a 200 word review complaining among other things about “non-existent” customer service.
But the pub owner couldn’t help but defend his restaurant with an equally scathing response and took personal photos of the critic, Birmingham Live reports.
The Plow Inn has a TripAdvisor rating of 3.5 – with over 1,100 reviews of which 499 are excellent.
Recent customers have described it as their “new restaurant” and “highly recommended”.
But Judith, who dined at The Plow Inn on New Year’s Day, left a one-star rating, to which Mark, the owner of The Plow, replied, thanking her sarcastically for her “priceless” review.
Judith said she was told when she called to reserve a table that the full menu would be available on New Years Day – but when they arrived at The Plow they were told it wasn’t. was not the case – and that only meats were offered – leaving two people unable to eat.
She also said customer service was “non-existent”, “unhelpful” and she would not return.
Its review on TripAdvisor said: “Having booked a family table and being told on the phone that the full menu was available as two of our guests don’t eat meat (pescatarian) so fish was an option we were expecting with looking forward to our meal.
“But when we arrived we were told it was minced meat only with pudding and the only vegetarian option required 30 minutes to cook but we couldn’t order it due to food allergies Unfortunately two of our group were unable to order a meal and they did not offer any alternative meals.
“Over the years my dad has used The Plow for many meals, he found the price had gone up and the plates were smaller. No information was advertised on the website. Customer service was non-existent. I would not recommend this place.
“The price of the rotisserie with compulsive pudding which was £23 each, this price was the same for children, personally I heard several complaints about the place while sipping my extremely expensive beer.
“My dad won’t be back again and spread the word so several customers have lost, I’ll never be back again, the service is useless at best and overpriced for an almost legal extortion. Regardless of New Years Day.”
And The Plow’s owner, Mark, replied: “Hello Judith, thank you for your invaluable review, maybe if I had paid for it it might have been a little more constructive.
“Obviously your dad is a smart man, using The Plow over the years, but hopefully he won’t be guided by you in the future.
“There are plenty of other grills around, overall cheaper but I have to say, I think they should be called CRAPERYS, that’s why the price reflects.
“Now saying that our three course deal is now on £10 YES TEN POUNDS mealy legal extortion, what do you think? Mark.”
The pub has had some good reviews in the past – with one restaurant thanking staff for “an amazing meal” two weeks ago.
They wrote: “Absolutely fantastic! Went here for a birthday meal and £10 for 3 courses and it’s not crappy cheap food it’s amazing!!
“I had stilton mushrooms to start and they were outstanding, carvery for the main course brilliant! My dad had the steak and that looked amazing and chocolate cake with custard to finish the meal!
“Highly recommended! Can’t wait to go back! Thank you The Plow for an amazing meal.”
When Kirsty Bates visited in December, she said: “Visited with partner and mum. Friendly staff.
“The boss will always make conversation with me no matter what he does, a very polite and kind man. There’s nothing I don’t like about this place. I love it.
“My grill was amazing but the food still is.”
