Shanghai-style restaurant opens its 2nd location | News

Chapter One Dumpling House opened its second location at the Micronesia Mall on Sunday.

“We are thrilled to welcome Chapter One to Micronesia Mall,” said Dorene Kanoh, COO of Goodwin Development Corporation. “We wanted them to be here for many, many months. And so this has been a long work in progress. And it finally materialized. »

Unlike the Tumon location, which focuses more on its teas, the mall location wanted to bring Shanghai-style cuisine. According to owner Salina Wang, it’s hard to find on the island.

“Most of the local restaurants here are Cantonese style. People in Shanghai like to have soy sauce and sugar to cook the meal, it’s similar to Guam,” Wang said. “It has to be fresh, it’s the most important part of a Chinese restaurant.”

When it was founded in 2017, Wang wanted to tap into the tourist market by locating it in one of Guam’s busiest spots: Tumon. Although she receives a good amount of tourists in her restaurant, she has noticed that most of her customers are locals.

Like many businesses during the pandemic, Wang worried about the state and future of her business.

However, after receiving calls from his local customers missing his food, it gave him the confidence to open somewhere bigger.

“It made me so hot, and I really appreciate Micronesia Mall for giving us a chance,” she said. “So we will do our best to make everything more chic and bring something new to customers. The locals always support us, and it’s thanks to them that we have a new location… it’s thanks to them.
