Stay up to date with these 7 new experiences on the Gold Coast

With a few months of 2022 (yes!), We look forward to the New Year for some much-needed hype to tackle the post-Christmas blues. A little premature? Maybe, but when you see what’s headlining the Gold Coast 2022 lineup, we have no doubt you’ll start to share our excitement.

Ready to open even more gateways to good times, the Gold Coast Airport terminal is undergoing a much-anticipated expansion that will upgrade travel plans for the New Year. Paired with glitzy hotel openings, a panoramic bar overlooking the hinterland, and thrilling adventures, 2022 looks like a one-year cracker for the Gold Coast.

Take to the skies from the shiny and enlarged Gold Coast Terminal

Traveling on the maps for 2022? Then we have good news for you. Gold Coast Airport is currently in the midst of a massive multi-tier terminal expansion that is expected to double its current size and pave the way for more flights and more destinations. Launched next year, this project is the airport’s way to keep pace with what has become a growing region and to invest in Queensland now and in the future. It incorporates a fresh, modern design that does away with the airports of yesteryear by paying homage to the beautiful Gold Coast hinterland and the northern region of New South Wales. With six additional doors, the expansion will set the stage for new and return international and domestic flights, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. Want to know which flights are planned for 2022 and beyond? Head here to be the first to know about exciting developments and updates.

Sip cocktails and enjoy stunning views

Since opening its doors in the booming Gold Coast Airport District last year, The Rydges has upgraded its travel plans with a resort-style feel, beautifully blending well-kept outdoor environments with interior modern and elegant. You have free time ? Make your way to the rooftop bar, The Salty Fox, and soak up the breathtaking views of the backcountry, ocean and tarmac with a drink in hand. We recommend the Foxy Devil cocktail. They also have occasional live music and DJ sets, making it the perfect spot for an extended goodbye or a long overdue hello.

Lock in a luxury night at Langham

As if you needed another excuse for a road trip, Langham Hospitality Group recently announced the launch of its third luxury hotel on Australian soil. With plans to open in early 2022, The Langham Gold Coast is located on prime real estate in Surfers Paradise, making it the first new development to offer direct beach access in over 30 years. The hotel will house 170 serviced apartments, not to mention a brand new pool bar, rooftop terrace and spa. But the real jewel in the crown is its incredible restaurants, including Cantonese restaurant T’ang Court and lavish high society venue, Palm Court. Whatever your vice, when it comes to The Langham, luxury is guaranteed.

Soothe your indoor adrenaline junkie at Binna Burra Via Ferrata

The iconic Binna Burra Lodge in Lamington National Park has always been renowned for its stunning scenery and exhilarating adventures, but suffered a major setback after the 2019-2020 bushfire season. Fortunately, the lodge is set for an epic comeback, thanks to the upcoming launch of their Via Ferrata. In Italian for “railway,” via ferratas are popular in Europe and consist of towering cliffs that adventurers can climb using steel cables, ladders and other fixed anchors available to them. Not for the faint-hearted, the Binna Burra Via Ferrata is a game-changer for adventure tourism on the Gold Coast, promising stunning Scenic Rim views and an unforgettable vacation.

Venture into Atlantis

Can’t look past a theme park? Same here. Construction is currently underway at Sea World to expand the New Atlantis enclosure, adding two thrill rides to jump on. The Leviathan roller coaster promises a thunderous 90-second question filled with turns, crosses, drops and dips. Not a roller coaster fan? Soar through the skies and defy gravity on the all-new Trident ride – freely spinning 42 meters high, it’s the tallest landmark in the park. Due to the opening next Easter, we will be the first in line.

The triumphant return of the Bleach festival *

If you’ve been heartbroken by the recent cancellation of the 10th Bleach * Festival, we’ve got you covered. But don’t worry, they’ve already confirmed that they’ll be back next year with a solid lineup of amazing artists and local legends ready to go.

Shop your way in the retail village of Lanes

The opening is scheduled for the end of next year. The Lanes Retail Village, a $ 82 million project, will transform The Lakes district with a multitude of retail lanes united with a fresh produce market hall, cafes, restaurants and a dedicated health district and well-being. The village will be the first major mall to open in the central suburbs since Robina Town Center, which opened in 1996. Bring it on.

The countdown to 2022 has officially started. With so many exciting additions to the Gold Coast Airport yet to be announced, head here to stay up to date on the exciting developments in the expansion.
