The last dish: gastronomy is back

Frederik de Pue’s Belgian and French inspired restaurant, The Henry, at 1301 Pennsylvania Ave NW, will debut Feb. 15 with 60 seats, 6 PDRs (groups of 3 to 80 seats), a 50-seat bar, Bonnet rotisserie and rooftop space. It is named after Frederik’s beloved grandfather. Frederik has maintained his restaurant business in the DC area for years, as well as his Annapolis restaurant, Flemish.

NYC’s upscale Chinese restaurant, Philippe by Philippe Chowwill open during the second phase of the Platform at 635 Wharf St. SW in Q3 2022. Seventy-five seats in the 270-seat restaurant are under a covered patio. The official opening of the second phase of the quay is scheduled for the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2022. Papadopoulos Properties represented Philippe by Philippe Chow as well as all the necessary food groups:Kilwins chocolates and ice cream, lucky rollsand Mason’s famous lobster rolls.

Based in New York The NYC Group will open The Big Butcher in the Federal-American National Bank building (where Hahn Shoes was located), in the main lobby at 699 14th Street NW. This DC outpost will be its fifth, with four more open in New York. They will also launch an upscale Japanese restaurant, wasoku Roomand an indoor/outdoor Italian trattoria called Olio e Piu in the former banking area.

A great rooftop bar, Smoke and mirrorsfeaturing panoramic views of DC’s iconic buildings and landmarks opens February 17. The roof offers indoor and outdoor space, a bar as well as a restaurant, at the top of the new AC Washington DC Capitol Hill Hotel at 867 New Jersey Ave SE, Navy Yard.

Just opened: Nick Stefanelli’s salute to fine Greek cuisine, Philotimoopen to Downtown at 1100 15th Street NW. There is a prix fixe menu for the 62-seat restaurant and an a la carte menu at the 10-seat bar. A private dining area is available. Nick also plans to open a cafe and wine bar in Midtown Center in March.

Greg Algie and Nathan Beauchamp (formerly at Restaurant watch) of Blagden Hotel Group (tiger Fork, fainted goat, calico, primrose) plan to open Ivy of Bar at 3033 Wilson Blvd. in Clarendon in Q2 2022. It has a 125-seat terrace. Jonathan Till, formerly of Del Ray’s Evening Star Cafe, is the chief executive. They plan to open a second location in Bethesda at Wilson and the elm7272 Wisconsin Ave.

Massimo and Carolyn Papetti from I am Eddie Cano in Chevy Chase will open a pizzeria at 2400 Wisconsin Ave NW in Glover Park where another pizzeria, Arcuri, used to be. An opening in Q2 2022 is targeted. They plan to expand I am Eddie Cano in the small space next door with a European-style SRO bar called Italian bar.

From B Social hospitality come The cove at 25 Potomac Ave SE at Navy Yard where Bardo Brewery used to be. They will serve classic and tropical cocktails and plan to make their own hard seltzers and craft beers. The plan is to open in time for the start of the Nationals’ 2022 baseball season. The Cove will be twice the size of its sister operation, The Batchin Clarendon.

Quick Hits: the owners of donburi at 2438 18th Street NW in Adams Morgan have reopened it as Mokinbird Smoked Chicken…. Based in New York Mort & Co. legendary cocktail bar, will open in the third quarter where Derek Brown’s Colombia Room spirits served, in Blagden Alley…. During this time, call your mother opens where Blue bottle of coffee was at 1471 P Street NW….. Butter me will serve an expanded breakfast 2.0 when it leaves its half smoke nest and opens in Logan Circle at 1409 T Street NW…. Tammie Disayawathana from thai sisters plans to open at Tysons at 7730 Capital One Tower Rd., near Capital One Center’s new performing arts venue in Q4 2022. This will be its fifth location…. by Amy Brandwein piccolina an all-day Italian cafe will expand into the space once occupied by The Great Republic at CityCenterDC, doubling its space there…. Based in Boston Tatte Bakery and Cafe will open where David Chang’s Momofuku was at CityCenterDC.

FoxtrotGourmet Market expansion in the DMV includes a 14,000 square foot. site at 3300 New York Ave. NE, to build its Commissioner’s Kitchen for more efficient distribution at its locations in Georgetown, Mount Vernon Triangle and Dupont Circle, and its future locations near Logan Circle and in Old Town, Alexandria, at 701 King St.
