The Opposite House unveils extensive renovation – Hospitality Net

The Opposite House, recently named # 1 hotel in China in Travel + Leisure‘s World’s Best Awards, is relaunched after the completion of a extensive renovation of its public spaces, restaurants and guest rooms. The first hotel under the The House Collective by Swire Hotels brand, located in the trendy Sanlitun district of Beijing, took inspiration from the city’s creative electric energy for its renovations that encompass design, art and culture . With a collection of new restaurants and social spaces, the redesign turns The House Collective’s ‘Maison de l’art’ into a vibrant and inspiring destination that taste makers will appreciate from every angle.

Imagined as a contemporary art gallery, The Opposite House was originally designed by the famous Japanese architect Kengo Kuma in 2008. Its now iconic emerald green glass exterior mirrors the hotel setting at Taikoo Li Sanlitun and inside, the airy atrium features its rotating art exhibitions under monumental curtains that create a screen of light. The Maison’s new experience begins with the installation “Origami” by Kengo Kuma, which serves as a new lobby reception wall. Kengo applied Tyvek, a translucent synthetic fabric resembling handmade paper, to create a light screen with organic texture and undertones.

In the refreshed guest rooms, floor-to-ceiling windows open to lush views of the lush green surroundings and neighboring Taikoo Li resort. Clear partitions maximize space while giving rooms a modern touch for a contemporary feel. A Beijing-inspired decor completes the artistic atmosphere.

We are very happy with the relaunch of our House“said Olivier Dumonceaux, Managing Director of The Opposite House.”As a space where art comes to life, The Opposite House has always been animated by the fusion of design, creativity and culture. With art installations and pop-ups alongside new restaurant and bar concepts, we believe our home is a true lifestyle destination with unique experiences for every guest.

At The Opposite House, guests can immerse themselves in art everywhere. Whether it is the Maison’s collaboration with contemporary artists, or its curatorial work, or even quite simply a cocktail, art is appreciated from every angle. Every season, La Maison d’en face presents another series of works of art, offering clients new cultural perspectives in the world of contemporary art. The biennial artistic program of The House Collective in 2019, ‘Encounters across cultures: seeds of life ‘, featured multidisciplinary artist Katja Loher, who collaborated with local artists and choreographers to create “video planets” of the five elements for a floating installation in the atrium. This year, ‘Encounters across cultures‘returns, where contemporary dancer Yu Jinying and Li Xinmeng have joined forces to create a interactive art installation through space and time that explores the architecture of The Opposite House.

As a “House of Art”, The Opposite House is a destination for those who create culture in the capital. Blending fashion and art, The House offers trendy events, from trendy tea inspired by designer creation to pop-up stores featuring sought-after luxury brands. And almost as if it were an haute couture fashion show, Superfly, Union and the Lobby Atrium inspire the photos of the Maison’s social guests.

Whether it’s collaborating with artists to deliver the ‘Encounters Across Cultures’ art program or hosting special events with fashion brands, it’s always exciting to partner with artists and brands to create unique experiences for our guests.“said Ami Tsou, director of communications and marketing for The Opposite House.

The Opposite House is located in the vibrant Sanlitun district, drawing on the creative energy and the blend of cultures of the region. TO Superfly, vintage atmosphere, Chinese pop culture and Sichuan street culture come together. At starred Michelin Jing Yaa Tang, Chef Li Dong explores the parallels and juxtapositions of traditional and modern Chinese cuisine. union is inspired by the ancient Silk Road for a range of flavors from China to the Mediterranean.
