Three Hong Kong restaurants make the 51-100 World’s 50 Best Restaurants list

After the pandemic-induced hiatus in 2020, the highly anticipated World’s 50 Best Restaurants returns this year and announced its list of restaurants ranked from 51st to 100th ahead of the awards ceremony to be held in the Belgian city of Antwerp. The ceremony will be a live countdown of the 50 best restaurants in the world on stage with a simulcast online on October 5, 2021.

The 51-100 list includes restaurants from around the world – 22 countries on six continents to be exact – and this year there are more Asian restaurants than ever before with five countries represented on the list including Japan, South Korea, Thailand, India and Hong Kong. This represents 13 restaurants in Asia, five of which are from Japan, which is the highest number of any country, while Europe takes 21 restaurant rankings in this list and nine are from South America.

Three Hong Kong restaurants that made the 51-100 list include Chinese x French restaurant VEA (# 71); The French restaurant Belon (n ° 88) moved, refurbished and reopened; and Amber (No. 100), the contemporary French-influenced restaurant at the Landmark Mandarin Oriental.

All three restaurants have jumped in the list since 2019: VEA is up from # 113, Belon is up from # 96 and Amber is from # 102. Pending the top 50 results in The World’s 50 Best List of restaurants, one can only wonder where Cantonese restaurants like The Chairman and Lung King Heen will stand, ranked 41st and 88th respectively in the 2019 list this year.
